What stays private
What you say in our sessions stays private. If a parent or guardian agreed to your therapy, they’ll know we’re meeting and may hear a general sense of how it’s going, but not what you said.
There are a few times I have to share information: if you or someone else is in serious danger, if I think someone is hurting you or a child, or if a court or the law requires it. When that happens, I’ll try to talk with you about it first, if it’s safe to do so, and I’ll only share what’s needed.
If you’re under 18, I’ll write back to you, not your parents. Before we start regular sessions, a parent or guardian usually needs to agree, and I’ll explain how that works.
We’ll go over all of this at the start, and you can ask me anything.
Need to tell a parent?
Pick a message to send them, with a link to the page I wrote for parents. You can change the words before you send it.
If talking to a parent doesn’t feel safe, you can talk to a school counselor, or call or text 988 any time.
Not sure what to say?
You don’t need the perfect words. Here are a few ways to start. Tap through them, or just say hi.
I don’t feel comfortable at school.
